It's a relatively new phenomenon with some very old roots---the exploding porn industry inside the Czech Republic of Eastern Europe.   Just how big is it? Consider that Prague is now the second-largest producer of adult erotica in the world (behind America).  This boom didn't happen by accident and it didn't happen overnight.  Historic worldwide events over the past twenty years played a major role.

In 2010, even media sources like mainstream CBS News reported on straight men in the Czech Republic who were increasingly turning to the booming (and underground) gay porn industry to make money.  There's a lot of demand around the world for these classically good looking men, and the Czech economy has created an enormous supply of young guys in search of jobs.  The total unemployment rate in the Czech Republic has remained high for many years, reaching an historical record of 10.20 percent in February of 2004.  It's estimated that for men between the ages of 16 and 24, the unemployment rate average is closer to 21%.

With unemployment rates very high, everyday men are attracted to the relatively big pay checks of smut, and buddies tell one another about how to get into the business.  This is really true and not just created for marketing---while many models are gay, lots of them are also straight, have girlfriends or are married with young families waiting for them back at home.  Porn pays the bills when factory jobs aren't easy to get.  Plus, some men seem to enjoy the attention of being the star in photo shoots, especially since their contracts typically restrict their sex work from being shown in their own country where they would be recognized.  When asked, many models offer the same reasoning as guys did in the 1950's-1960's in American gay smut: "nobody I know is ever going to ever see this, so why not?"
